wagon trails and wagging tales
Sometimes, when exploring a landscape, I search for things which aren’t always obvious, looking for a sense of place where surprises happen and stories appear, shedding new light.
Trees and their lives are fascinating. In many societies where they are given high status and being up to 5,000 years old they are an irreplaceable part of the living landscape…part of local folklore and narratives. They have witnessed important stories and still provide meeting places to local communities and travellers. The artworks contain clues about what the tree has witnessed, from secret liaisons to historical events, from gallows justice to magical happenings. The images below can be supplied as prints or wallposters.
